Seagate has released World’s thinnest 2.5-inch Hard disk that measures only 7-mm thick as compared to 9.5-mm standard. This hard disk will be a part of the Momentus line-up and will be available for sale in January 2010.
This new hard disk is targeted at extra slim laptops and netbooks whose size can be further squeezed due to this drive. Also, due to the already available thin SSDs, this new 7-mm thickness might be a start of a new drive standard. The hard disk will be available in 160 and 250GB sizes with 8MB cache and SATA interface. Interestingly, the cost of the drive remains unchanged, which means thinner and lighter notebooks with no price increase.
The exact price of the models are unannounced for now, but the hard disk will be made available to OEMs in January 2010.
