PS3 outsells X-Box in Worldwide Sales
By Stuart Vivers | April 5th, 2011Anyone surprised? When the PS3 first came out it was predicted to outsell the X-box. But the surprising thing about this is how long it has taken Sony to do it. In terms of survivability the x-box has done extremely well for itself. Sales were strengthened by its huge catalogue of games and the fact that it is one of the cheapest consoles of this generation. However it has now been outsold by its younger rival. The PS3’s sales have now reached 43.4 million whereas the x-box has sold 42.9 million. The x-box however is extremely popular in the US and is yet to be outsold by the PS3.
Jia Wu, a senior analyst from the firm Strategy Analytics has this to say: “While the Kinect peripheral has given a boost to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 strategy, the console’s performance outside of the US continues to disappoint”
Global demand for Sony’s PS3 has exceeded that of the Xbox 360 in each of the past two years, and we expect that to continue over the coming years.
However, none of the two consoles are anywhere near to achieving the amount of sales that the Nintendo Wii has. Its sales now sit at about 75.5 million sales worldwide. The firm Strategy Analytics also predicted that Nintendo will launch a successor to the Wii within the next 12 months. [source: CAndV]
